Lately, we’ve been reading some of the most amazing children’s books. Each night, Tuck Facetimes my mom, and together, we read a story. The other night, mom and I were laughing so hard we had tears streaming down our cheeks. I thought maybe you’d like to know what some of our favorites have been lately.

- Wolfie the Bunny: This is what had us laughing so hard we had tears. Each page – each page – had us shaking our heads. And the ending … just so unexpected.

2. Giraffe Problems: Another book that is just so cute. Some of the pages fold out, and the message is ahhhhhhmazing. The giraffe doesn’t like his neck … but then he meets a turtle that has a different kind of neck, and a friendship is formed. So good.

3. The Couch Potato: This is part of a great series. Our other favorites include The Good Egg, The Bad Seed, and The Cool Bean. The messages kinda knock you in the face, but Tucker loves them, and we read them over and over. The illustrations are awesome, too.

4. Spooky Stories Boxed Set: These were perfect for Tuck (in second grade). They’re not too scary, either. I love the wide array of stories + he can read most of them by himself. They’re great for fluency boxes at school, too!

5. Weird But True: Tuck is obsessed with these books. He loves random facts + nonfiction. He’s mostly just a sponge lately. And since I’m obsessed with theming books with upcoming holidays – this is perfection.

6. The Scariest Book in the Entire World: Billed as a book for “reluctant readers”, this series is remarkable. We absolutely love them. They’re funny and interesting. We read them over and over. Basically, the ten books follow a character named Nameless and it’s just … always a ride. 🙂

7. Gus the Gassy Ghost: You guys – I’ll buy anything if I think my kid will read it.

8. What If You Could Sniff Like A Shark: This is another series set from Scholastic. Tuck really loves animals/oceanic books, and we’re just learning alllllll the things. This is a great mix of illustrations + actual photos, which really snag his attention. The writing isn’t bad, but the pictures are where it’s at.

9. Britannica’s First Big Book of Why: ALLLLLL the questions are answered. All of them. I cannot tell you how many times we’ve read an entry and thought, “Huh. Sure didn’t know that…” Why do elephants have trunks? Why can’t penguins fly? Why are slugs slimy? Now you’ll never have to wonder ever again.

10. Ninja Life Hacks: Pricey, but worth it. You get 8 books, and they’re great books. They’re all about emotions and feelings (as told through ninjas). What kids don’t love ninjas? They are encouraging, engaging, and through-provoking. They also lead to excellent post-reading questions (spoken like a true English teacher over here). These books open the door to some awesome conversations, and I’m here for that kind of stuff any day.

That’s it! That’s what Tuck (and me … and my mom) are all reading lately. What kind of recs do you have??
xoxo, B.
